Goal of Taping: Creating Space Between Nail and Skin
The primary purpose of taping is not to lift the nail itself, but to "pull the surrounding skin away from the nail."
This physically relieves the pressure and can dramatically reduce pain.
Practice: How to Apply Anchor Taping
Items needed: Standard kinesiology tape (2.5cm wide, 5-7cm long).
- Fix the End of the Tape: Stick the end of the tape firmly to the skin right next to the ingrown part of the nail.
- Pull the Skin Down: Pull the tape strongly toward the bottom of the toe (diagonally down). Ensure the skin is being pulled away from the digging nail.
- Wrap and Secure: Maintain the tension and wrap the tape around the toe, securing it on the opposite side.
Precautions for Taping
- Watch the Tightness: Do not wrap so tightly that it cuts off circulation. If your toe becomes numb or changes color, loosen it immediately.
- Change Daily: For hygiene, replace the tape every day, preferably after bathing.
- Temporary Relief Only: Taping addresses the pain, not the underlying cause of the nail's curvature.
